Today I glued up the table base. Since I prefinished all the parts, I was able to rub them out without sanding and buffing into inside corners. That never works out as well as I'd like. This was definitely the way to go. It made cleaning up tiny bits of squeeze out really simple too. Clamping the legs was a bit of a challenge because of the splayed angle.

Please pardon the phone photos...

I did one set of legs at a time to minimize the flail factor. This made for a nice relaxed assembly. The last leg gave me a little trouble, ended up the tenon was just too tight. It's been pretty wet around here since I first fitted them. A few swipes with the Clifton plane and it went together fine.

Here all clamps have been removed, and its a trestle base! Its quite heavy, flipping it over by myself was a chore.

It sits here on the assembly table fairly flat. I'm not sure if its going to need levelers or glides yet, but I doubt it. I'll see once I get the top on it. And here it is, for the first time!

Tomorrow, I will be rubbing out the finish on the top, and fastening it to the base. My photographer is coming Thursday to shoot real photos of it. Off to Canada on Friday.

Now that the tops have been through the wide belt sander, I cut them to length on the Panhans sliding saw that I've been setting up this week. Now that they are to their final dimension, time to finish sand. I'm starting back at 120 grit and I'll finish up at 320. I've got a little work to do on the live edges as well.

A couple hours later, and here is the first coat of finish on half of the top.

Back to work to get the other half to this point.
